A downloadable game for Windows

Story

Set in the city of Aderith, the human capital in the world of Esden you take on the role of a no name character who the world seems to have but forgotten. Waking up in the slums of the city with nothing to your name other than the clothes on your back and the memories of the night before you'll have to struggle for your own survival. The harsh and unforgiving world of Esden attempting to prevent you from rising through the ranks of society, to a point where you can no longer be forgotten and a point where you can leave your own mark on the world that tried to stop you.

Gameplay

Rise is a top down 2D RPG with turn based battles. Move around the map either by pressing the WASD, or arrow keys and interact with objects using the enter key. Alternatively use the mouse to automatically go to a set destination. Browse, use and equip or unequip items using the inventory and equipment GUI's and test your equipment by heading into the Forest and defeating some of the slime type enemies.

Current Features

  • Support for moving between different maps
  • Player pathing using either the mouse instead of WASD or the arrow keys
  • An inventory system where items can be used or equipped
  • The ability to sleep in a bed to pass the time and recover any lost health
  • The ability to drink from a well to recover your thirst
  • The ability to pick up any items that might be laying on the ground
  • Turn based battles agains't slime type enemies found in the Forest
  • Support for saving the game state and reloading it

Planned Features

With Rise being in such an early version (0.1.0) there is a long list of features and changes I want to implment in future versions. A small subset of which can be seen below:

  • A reputation system where every character has a reputation rank. With different quests, areas, characters and gameplay options becoming avalible depending on your current reputation rank
  • A true hunger and thrist systems which can result in increased or decreased health regen, as well as buffs and debuffs when your meters or empty or full.
  • A questing system with both custom made quests to advance the stroy, world and characters. As well as procedual quests to provide a more stable income and help boost reputation faster.
  • A expanded combat system where weapons, armour and character stats change how much damage is dealt or taken.
  •  A skill system with skills relating to combat, in world interactions and crafting with no options becoming avalible depending on your skill level.
  • A crafting system where you can refine the items and goods you find out in the world which can then be sold on at a profit depending on your related skill.
  • A event system taking into account the current day/date with maps and characters changing depending on if events such as markets, festivals or holidays are triggered.
  • A place to call your own with the ability to customize what furniture is used, the colour of the walls and floors as well as support for placing crafting stations which can be used alongside their crafting related skills
